Windows 8, the successor to Windows 7, was released to the market on 26 October 2012 and is the current release of the Windows operating system. Windows 8 was designed to be used on both tablets, the typical PCs and also on mobile devices. The main focus of Windows 8 was enhance its user experience to rival with other mobile operating systems such as, Android and IOS, taking the upper hand of new technology.

Windows 7 was released on October 22, 2009 for PCs such as desktops, laptops, tablet PCs, and media center PCs. Unlike Windows Vista, which introduced various features, Windows 7 was meant to be more of an upgrade to what Windows Vista had already brought.

Window Vista was released on January 30, 2007 for PCs such as, desktops,laptops, tablet PCs and media center PCs. The release came more than 5 years after the release of the previous operating system, Windows XP. This was the longest time span between Windows operating systems.

Windows XP is a consumer and business based operating system that was released on October 25, 2001 for PCs such as, desktops, laptops and media center PCs. It came in a home and professional version. Also, for those who wonder why it is called XP, the name "XP" is short for "eXPerience".
